UNIVERSITY DRIVE BICYCLE FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS

CITY OF FAIRFAX PUBLIC HEARING

FEBRUARY 25, 2025, 7:00PM

Find out about the proposed roadway improvements for University Drive in the City of Fairfax. The project spans from South Street to Kenmore Drive and involves the reconfiguration of the existing pavement markings in the form of a road diet to introduce bicycle facilities. The corridor is composed of three segments, from South Street to North Street includes shared lane markings where bicyclists share the lane with drivers, from North Street to Whitehead Street introduces separated bike lanes with one travel lane in each direction and a center left-turn lane, and from Whitehead Street to Layton Hall Drive with bike lanes in each direction. This project also includes an intersection modification at University Drive and Layton Hall Drive to remove the right turn lane onto Layton Hall Drive and adding a new crosswalk across University Drive with median refuge to improve bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Pursuant with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and 23 CFR 771, a Programmatic Categorical Exclusion was prepared to evaluate potential environmental impacts.

Review project plans, information about property impacts, right of way policies, the tentative construction schedule and environmental documents at the hearing. This information will also be available 30 days prior to the public hearing at 10455 Armstrong Street, Room 200, Fairfax, VA 22030.
