Fairfax County Notice

PLANNING COMMISSION

JUNE 3, 2026, AT 7:30 P.M.

Public hearing before the Planning Commission of Fairfax County, Virginia, to be held at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia 22035.

Plan Amendment (PA) 2021-IV-LP1 concerns the Lorton-South Route 1 Community Planning Sector and Suburban Center, an area comprised of approximately 3,200 acres in the Mount Vernon Supervisor District. The subject area is located in southeast Fairfax County and bounded by Accotink Creek on the north, by Fort Belvoir Main Post and Old Colchester Road on the east, by Furnace Road on the west, and by the Occoquan River on the south. The area is planned for residential uses in areas designated as Suburban Neighborhoods and Low-density Residential Areas, a mixed-use town center surrounding the Lorton VRE station, retail shopping centers, and industrial areas. The amendment will consider updating the Comprehensive Plan guidance to allow for a land use framework centered around a mixed use core area east of I-95 and five activity nodes with recommendations for mixed-use redevelopment, including additional housing and employment activity. Recommendations for urban design, placemaking, and mobility enhancements are also proposed. Changes are also proposed to the Transportation Plan Maps, including but not limited to the revisions to the street network, extension of the Richmond Highway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) from Fort Belvoir to the Occoquan River, and addition of BRT stations in the study area.

The meeting is available to view live on Channel 16 and stream live online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cableconsumer/channel-16/live-video-stream.
