NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, INCLUDING VIRTUAL MEETING FEATURES
PUBLIC HEARING DRAFT OF THE FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS SECTOR PLAN
Pursuant to the Land Use Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Chapters 24A and 33A of the Montgomery County Code, the Montgomery County Planning Board of THE MARYLAND-NATIONAL CAPITAL PARK AND PLANNING COMMISSION hereby gives notice that it will hold a public hearing on the Public Hearing Draft of the Friendship Heights Sector Plan, being also an amendment to the approved and adopted 1998 Friendship Heights Sector Plan, as amended; and the 1990 Bethesda-Chevy Chase Plan, as amended. It also amends Thrive Montgomery 2050, the 1979 Master Plan for Historic Preservation, the 2013 Countywide Transit Corridors Functional Master Plan, the 2018 Bicycle Master Plan, the 2023 Pedestrian Master Plan and the 2025 Master Plan of Highways and Transitways.
The Planning Board’s public hearing will be held in two parts:
(1) Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 1:30 p.m., for both in-person and virtual testimony
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

(2) Monday, September 14, 2026 at 4 p.m., for in-person testimony only

Public testimony may be submitted at either part of the public hearing, in the format specified above. To sign up to testify at the public hearing visit https://montgomeryplanningboard.org, then click ‘Sign Up to Testify” below the search bar. Persons wishing to testify at the public hearing may sign up online beginning on August 3rd, 2026. Sign-ups will close at noon two business days before each part of the hearing. The public can observe the Planning Board hearing in person or watch online via the link above.

The Friendship Heights Sector Plan Area covers approximately 173 acres and includes the Village of Friendship Heights, the former GEICO headquarters, the mixed-use development along Wisconsin Avenue and several blocks of the residential neighborhood of Brookdale. The plan seeks to revitalize Friendship Heights and transform this urban neighborhood into a thriving regional destination and a welcoming community where people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can live, work and play.
